![]() The gas giant rules seem fine but you probably wont bother making PCs roll pilot checks every time they want to skim fuel. Many of the new rules are similar to this - things you might normally gloss over but sometimes you want a mechanic for it to add some tension to the game. Share Report Save level 1 2 years ago The new character creation options are fun: theres new pre-career options to accompany UniversityMilitary Academy that seem flavorful and balanced. The background packages seem to produce more competent Travellers than someone rolling averages would produce using the classic creation method - but I can imagine using the background packages (constituting pre-career and first term of career) as an option in a campaign. I was a little disappointed by the new careers at first - I was hoping for one or two more (the companion contains two) and for them to be a bit more of interest to me personally. However, they do fill a niche that was absent from the base game (religious-based characters and truth-seekersconspiracy nuts) and come with their own mechanics, so in all I think they are a good addition, though their use depends on your own game. There are optional newalternative statistics such as sanity, morale and luck and they have interesting mechanics and ideas associated with them. Each seems well-reasoned and modular enough to slot in and out of campaigns as needed. There are also rules for abstracting wealth which, along with other rules for introducing narrative elements and abstracting ammunition, offer neat alternatives for people who would otherwise find Traveller too crunchy. Traveller Companion Plus How TweakingI know I am particularly interested in abstracting ammunition to reduce record-keeping in combat heavy scenarios Ive not had a chance to check out the rest of the book, but the majority of the articles are either mechanics for bringing stuff that otherwise has no rules into the game (poisons, extreme gravity, environmental effects), descriptions of particular phenomena (theres a lot about how j-drives are employed and how their restrictions shape the setting plus how tweaking how FTL travel can be doneimpact a campaign) or are collections of mechanics to replace existing ones (the combat section). I think its a pretty cool book and works really well with the other core rulebooks. Traveller Companion How To Tweak TheWorth picking up if you want a toolkit for mechanics and running the game, or need some inspiration for how to tweak the core enginesetting of the game for something new.
